Why Our Elders Matter
Gay history is rarely taught in schools or passed down around family dinner tables. For generations, gay men had to find each other, build chosen families, and create culture from scratch. Our elders are the generation that survived pre-AIDS liberation, carried each other through the darkest years of the epidemic, and fought for the rights, visibility, and safe spaces we enjoy today.
They hold the living memory of our community: how we danced, how we cared for one another, and how we built lives of dignity and joy. From ballroom house parents where elders taught us the lexicon of resilience to quiet neighborhood mentors, intergenerational connection keeps us grounded. Connecting across generations gives younger men perspective, warmth, and hope, while ensuring our elders' wisdom remains honored and active at kiki.gay.
Launch Format
How Ask the Elders Works
Ask the Elders is built as a warm, community-led column. At launch, younger men submit questions about life, relationships, career, coming out, and growing older. Our editorial team shares these questions with a trusted circle of gay elders, men in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond, who write thoughtful, published answers.
1. Submit a Question
Email your question to customerservice@kiki.gay with the subject line Ask the Elders. You can ask anonymously or use a first name.
2. Elder Review
Our panel of elder mentors reads your submission and reflects on their own lived experiences to craft gentle, sincere responses.
3. Published Answers
Selected questions and elder responses are published on kiki.gay to guide, comfort, and inspire the entire community.

We are currently accepting the first wave of community questions. Below are four sample prompts representing the topics we are collecting. Your question could be featured in our inaugural edition.
